About ReadyBeat
ReadyBeat is a simple heart-rate companion for running, jogging and stationary exercise such as a treadmill, exercise bike or rowing machine. It is built around one idea: recovery.
- You set two heart rates: a high limit and a low limit.
- When your heart rate reaches the high limit, ReadyBeat says “Slow down”, so you can ease off or take a rest.
- As soon as your heart rate comes back down to the low limit, it says “You are ready”.
- Every recovery is recorded: the time it took from your peak heart rate back down to the low limit. Over the weeks, you can see in History how your recovery times change.
Looking for a full-featured heart rate app?
If you are looking for heart-rate zones, training plans, route maps, detailed charts or syncing with other services, there are many excellent apps on the Play Store and App Store that do all of this very well.
ReadyBeat deliberately stays small. It concentrates on the recovery phase and tries to do that one thing reliably, even with the screen off and the phone in your pocket.
Getting started
- Put on your heart rate strap (moisten the electrodes so it wakes up).
- Tap Connect and choose your sensor. Next time, ReadyBeat reconnects to it automatically.
- Set your Low and High limits, or tap Suggest limits: enter your year of birth and measure your resting heart rate, and ReadyBeat proposes limits using the Karvonen (heart-rate reserve) method.
- Choose Stationary or Run (GPS). For runs, you can turn on voice updates every 0.5 km or 1 km, giving the distance, total time and current heart rate.
- Optionally choose Music. Save your favourite playlists by tapping Share → ReadyBeat in YouTube or YouTube Music. When you press Start, the chosen playlist opens in its app.
- Press Start, lock the screen and put the phone in your pocket. Press Stop when you finish, and see each recovery in History.
What you need
- A Bluetooth heart rate sensor that supports the standard Bluetooth Heart Rate profile. Most chest straps do, and some watches and armbands can broadcast heart rate.
- An Android phone running Android 8.0 or later, or an iPhone running iOS 15 or later.
- Many sensors allow only one connection at a time. If ReadyBeat cannot find your sensor, close any other app that is connected to it.
Tips for reliable screen-off use
Android
- When ReadyBeat asks, allow it to run without battery restrictions. Without this, the phone may put the app to sleep during a workout.
- Some phones have additional battery settings of their own. If recording stops with the screen off, look in your phone’s battery settings and allow ReadyBeat to run in the background.
- While a workout is running, ReadyBeat shows a notification with your live heart rate. This is what keeps it working in your pocket.
iPhone
- Allow Bluetooth and location when asked. ReadyBeat keeps working with the screen locked; during a Run workout iOS shows a location indicator at the top of the screen.
- Do not swipe ReadyBeat away in the app switcher during a workout. iOS stops apps that are swiped away, and the workout stops with it (the part recorded so far is kept).
Health Notice
ReadyBeat is not a medical device. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, monitor or prevent any disease or medical condition.
- Heart-rate readings come from your sensor and may sometimes be inaccurate or delayed, for example with poor skin contact or interference.
- Voice alerts are a training aid only. They may not be heard or may not happen at all, for example if the sensor disconnects, the volume is low or the phone restricts the app.
- Your low and high limits are your own choice. Limits suggested by the App come from general formulas based on population averages and may not suit you. Please consult a doctor or another qualified professional before starting a new exercise programme and before choosing your limits, especially if you have or suspect a heart condition, have high blood pressure, take medication that affects your heart rate, are pregnant, or have not exercised for a while.
- Stop exercising immediately and seek medical help if you feel chest pain or pressure, dizziness, faintness, unusual shortness of breath or an irregular heartbeat.
- When running outdoors with headphones, always stay aware of traffic and your surroundings.
You use ReadyBeat at your own risk.
Privacy Policy
1. Introduction
ReadyBeat (the “App”) is developed by Ajit Abraham. This policy explains what the App does with your information. In short: everything stays on your phone.
2. Data Collection and Usage
Your heart rate and your runs are personal. My role is to give you a useful tool, not to watch how you use it.
- Personal Information: The App does NOT collect, ask for, store or transmit any information that could identify you (such as your name, email address, phone number or device IDs).
- User Accounts: The App does not require a login or a user account.
- Workout Data: Your heart-rate readings, GPS positions during runs, recovery times, limits, year of birth, resting and maximum heart rate (if you enter them), settings and saved music links are stored only in the App’s private storage on your device. They are never uploaded, shared or sold. I do not operate any server that receives your data.
- Analytics and Advertising: The App contains no advertising, no analytics and no tracking, and does not include any third-party services that collect your data.
- Financial Information: The App is free and does not handle any payments.
3. Device Permissions and Features
- Bluetooth (Android: “Nearby devices”): to find and connect to your heart rate sensor.
- Location: GPS is used only in Run mode: before the run to show when the GPS signal is good enough, and during the run to measure distance and record your route on your device. The App does not request “all the time” location; it uses location only while you use the App or a run is in progress, which the phone shows with a notification (Android) or a location indicator (iPhone). On Android versions before 12, the system also requires location permission for Bluetooth scanning; the App does not use it to find your location in that case.
- Notifications (Android): to show the ongoing workout notification with your live heart rate.
- Run in background / battery optimisation (Android): so that recording and voice alerts keep working with the screen off.
- Background modes (iPhone): Bluetooth, location (Run mode only) and audio, so that recording and spoken alerts keep working with the screen locked. The audio is only used to speak alerts; ReadyBeat briefly lowers the volume of your music while it speaks.
- Share (iPhone): the Share → ReadyBeat option stores the shared link on your device until you open ReadyBeat.
- Internet: only for the connections described in section 4.
4. External Connections
- YouTube titles: when you save a YouTube link, the App sends that link to YouTube’s public service to look up the title of the video or playlist.
- Opening music: tapping a saved link opens it in the YouTube or YouTube Music app. Your use of those apps, and the title lookup above, is covered by Google’s Privacy Policy.
- This page: when the App starts, it checks erp2.ua-group.com for an updated version of this About & Privacy page, so that it can be shown in the App even when you are offline. No personal or workout data is sent. Like any website, the server sees the request’s IP address in its normal logs.
The App makes no other internet connections.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
Your data stays on your device until you delete it. You can delete individual workouts in History. Clearing the App’s data or uninstalling the App permanently deletes everything. Because your data never reaches me, I cannot see it or recover it for you.
6. Children
The App is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from children.
7. Changes to This Policy
I may update this page from time to time. The App shows the latest version, and the “Last Updated” date above will change.
